Awaji Kawara Magnetic Needle Rest with Needle Polisher

A ceramic needle rest with built in needle polisher to sharpen needles. These are a reference to the Awaji Kawara ceramic tile making method. 

Awaji island in Hygoo Prefecture has rich soil used for making roof tiles and these needle rests are made by the artisans of Irakato who make the tiles. 

There is a magnet inside each needle rest and a small hole which is a needle polisher. This smooths the point and allows it to continue to be used for stitching.
